Clearing some land

felling a big cedar

This is what arborists do. The 3 cedars were a shy load. They were also very very close to the dome! The guys did a great job dropping the trees exactly where they wanted them. They used a Humboldt cut to maximize the amount of saleable wood. I took this picture from my office.

the second one to fall

I took this picture from over by the workshop! You can see how close to the dome these 3 trees are. The last one was about 6 feet from the wall. It was pretty impressive to see them fall. I felt bad, but I also want to keep my house! They were just too close.

loading logs

Here's the log truck driver loading the logs onto the truck. That was another incredible skill to see in action! Amazingly delicate maneuvers can be accomplished with a huge crane. We also limbed up the other cedars. I'm thinking that my garden and orchard are going to go into the new clearing. I can watch the deer munching my crops from my office window. ;)

logs leaving

This is the truck nearly stuck in our driveway. That prompted us to select a few more trees along the drive for removal. We want the fire truck, should that be necessary, to be able to come down the driveway without getting nearly wedged between trees! We won't be straightening anything out, just providing a bit more clearance.

we can see

Compared to the third photo on an earlier page, the change is quite remarkable! We have it on good authority that since we're east of Lyman, blue tarp on the roof is legal. ;) Actually that is gone now. We had Mike Pizzuto of Northill Construction and his crew build us a bit of an eave on the canopy. We'll be doing them one at a time as money allows. Only 3 more to go!
